salento
Salento was once known as "The land of Otranto".
Today, it is the most ancient part of Puglia, situated in the extreme
eastern part of the Italy.
Salento derives an important part of its culture and music, inclusive
with East, especially from Greece.
Around fifth century before Christ - "Bronze Age",
the Indo-European people inhabited this area. DOLMEN and MENHIR that we
see today are remains of the ancient civilization.
Main town is Lecce, where we can admire the "Baroque Art"
adorned with "pietra leccese" (a typical stone in Lecce).
Salento is located where two different seas meet, thus got the
name "land of the two seas". It is the land of the fusion of diverse
cultures and land of the crystalline sea.
Specchia - a little tourist destination regarded as one of the
most beautiful villages in Italy, located to the South of Lecce, in the
vicinity of S. Maria di Leuca, in the hinterland of
Salento, between Adriatic Sea and Ionian Sea.
Salento is surrounded by many olive groves that makes nights very quiet
and animated by famous folk customs.
Salento’s geographical location makes all of the tourist
destinations in this zone easily accessible.
